The course and results of the CSTO session of heads of state

A regular session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) at the highest level chaired by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was held at the Qasri Millat (Palace of the Nation) with the participation of the heads of member states of this organization.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko first of all came to Qasri Millat (Palace of the Nation), and then heads of other states.

It is recalled that for the participation at the CSTO session at the highest level in Tajikistan gathered the heads of all member states of this organization, including Armenia - Serzh Sargsyan, Belorussia - Alexander Lukashenko, Russian Federation - Vladimir Putin, and Kazakhstan - Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kyrgyzstan - Almazbek Atambayev as well as the Head of the host country Emomali Rahmon.

Head of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has met alternately with the honored guests. The session began with a general photographing, continued to holding of the session of heads of states in a narrow format and in an expanded format with participation of official delegations of the Member States and representatives of other regional and international organizations, and culminated in the signing of documents and a joint statement to the press.

During the session, along with a discussion of critical issues related to security and stability in the territory of the CSTO responsibility, reviewed the progress and results of Tajikistan's chairmanship in this organization.

It was emphasized that Tajikistan's chairmanship in the CSTO is successful and fruitful. In particular, it was praised by the summits of heads of relevant ministries and agencies of CSTO member states, special military exercises, held on the territory of Tajikistan with the participation of military units and other forces of these countries. In addition, it was pointed out that the joint military and special exercises of CSTO member states in Tajikistan demonstrated a strong willingness and ability to the relevant departments in these countries to respond quickly when necessary.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in his speech in the session in an expanded format, in particular, said that Tajikistan held the meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers, Defense Ministers, Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Military Committee, the heads of agencies to combat illegal drug trafficking and other structures, as well as joint military exercises and special. First of all, it was praised sudden checking of permanent readiness of units and subunits of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO member states, which included the transfer of the territory of Tajikistan, and military exercises.

President Emomali Rahmon expressed concern over the deterioration of the socio-political situation in the region and the world, the widespread use of the opportunities of globalization by terrorist and extremist forces, and stressed, this situation requires us to coordinated and urgent action in order to ensure a calm and peaceful life of our countries and peoples.

Emomali Rahmon also said that our partners in the CSTO member states should have a more co-ordinated bilateral and multilateral effort to strengthen the military capacity of the Tajik border, as states neighboring Afghanistan.

In the continuation of his speech Emomali Rahmon said “Tajikistan stands for serious attention to the issues of military-economic cooperation of the Member States, the deepening of cooperation between enterprises of the defense industry”.

Head of Tajikistan also noted the need to expand relations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

At the end of his speech Emomali Rahmon stressed the need to further strengthen permanent working bodies of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

The heads of the CSTO member states and other speakers praised the successful Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the CSTO. Heads of State, emphasizing the important role of Tajikistan in ensuring security and stability in the Central Asian region as a country in the forefront of the fight against common threats of terrorism, extremism and prevention, have confirmed their readiness to help it.

Following the meeting, a package of important documents was signed, contributing to the further strengthening and development of cooperation within the CSTO.

During the press conference, the heads of state of the Organization also praised the successful Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the CSTO, the country's important role in the regional security system, as well as the results of today's session.
