This evening the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, who has arrived in Dushanbe for participation in International Nawruz celebrations and the Fifth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-V).
The issues pertaining to the friendly relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and neighboring Afghanistan have been discussed firstly at the tete-a-tete meeting of the heads of both states and then during the official talks with participation of delegations.
It was noted with satisfaction that only in 2011 the goods turnover between Tajikistan and Afghanistan increased for two times compared to 2010 and accounts for 200 million USD. In 2012 this indicator may reach 250 – 300 million USD. Over 6 recent years goods turnover has been increased almost for 40 times.
With consideration of innumerable advantages of many regional projects, including on construction of new railways and automobile roads, hydropower stations, power transmission lines and others, both sides stressed their firm interest in doubling their efforts.
It was expressed confidence that the Fifth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-V) to be commenced in Dushanbe on 26th of March will provide favourable opportunities for adequate presentation of such projects and programs.
