This morning, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Peter Burian.
The meeting discussed issues of consistent development of relations between Tajikistan and the European Union.
President Emomali Rahmon congratulated Peter Burian on his appointment to this position and expressed confidence in his fruitful activity.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to practical implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Tajikistan and the European Union, the EU Strategy for Central Asia and Multiannual Indicative Programme for 2014-2020. It should be recalled that the programm envisages attracting 251 million Euros for the practical implementation of many projects in spheres of education, health and rural development of Tajikistan.
The sides exchanged views on issues of the meeting of Cooperation Committee between Tajikistan and the EU, as well as the next meeting of the bilateral Human Rights Dialogue to be held on 10-11 June in Brussels.
A constructive discussion took place on the current situation in the region and the world, addressing of the problems related to the development of regional cooperation in Central Asia, as well as the unstable situation in Afghanistan, necessity to strengthen protection of borders with this neighbouring country.
