Today the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a tete-a-tete meeting with the Director General of the World Trade Organization Mr. Pascal Lamy in Geneva, Swiss Confederation.
At the outset of the talk the President of Tajikistan stated: “It gives me pleasure to meet you during the first moments of accession of Tajikistan to WTO. The proud people of Tajikistan have been well informed about your sincere support and assistance from the moment of request to the very first moments of membership in this authoritative world organization. Taking this opportunity, I express to you and in your person to the WTO Secretariat my profound gratitude”.
The sides expressed satisfaction with fruitful bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and WTO, as well as considered its enhancement with a view to developing independent Tajikistan as a priority and important task.
It was noted that the accession of Tajikistan to WTO is the commencement of a new, free and transparent period of constructivism and continuation of constructive reforms in all national economy aspects, particularly the improvement of trade system.
The Head of Tajikistan expressed confidence that Tajikistan will effectively use this membership in WTO as a kind step toward further development of economy and increase of living standards of population of the country.
The WTO Director General Pascal Lamy congratulated the President of Tajikistan on this remarkable date, expressed interest in the accession of Tajikistan to WTO and stated that “we are ready to assist Tajikistan also in other domains”. Pascal Lamy characterized the participation of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the ceremony of accession of Tajikistan to WTO as a strong message.
At the end of the meeting the Head of State Emomali Rahmon invited the WTO Director General Pascal Lamy to officially visit Tajikistan. The invitation has been accepted with pleasure.
