On November 16, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, took part in a solemn event and a festive gathering in honor of the 30th anniversary of the historical XVI Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan in Bobojon Ghafurov district of Sughd Proviince.

Former representatives of the XVI Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, members of the country's Government, members of the Majlisi milli and deputies of the Majlisi namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, regional activists and other guests of the holiday participated in the grand event, which was held at the venue of the historic session - "Arbob" Palace named after Saidkhuja Urunkhojaev.

Honorable Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, congratulated all the participants and all the people of the country on the anniversary of the vital and historic session, which is the starting point of the restoration of constitutional authority, peace and tranquility, political stability, national unity, the creation of an independent state of Tajiks and the ensuring of today's achievements of the people.

We remind you that from November 16 to December 2, 1992, the historical XVI Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan was held in the Palace of Culture named after Saidkhuja Urunkhojaev of the Sughd Province, and at that time the representatives unanimously elected Emomali Rahmon, a prudent, wise and blessed politician, as the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan - Head of Tajik State.

Since the first days, support for the policy of the President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, is a sign of loyalty and endless love of the Tajik people for this beloved son of the nation.

The wise and auspicious leader Emomali Rahmon, who fulfilled his promise and brought peace to the people, on this blessed day once again reflected on the constructive and successful efforts of the leadership of the state and government and the honorable people of the country to transform Tajikistan into a unified country.

It was emphasized that the process of statehood of Tajiks started from this meeting, and from this point of view, the 30th anniversary of this fateful event is considered a truly great and historical holiday for the noble people of Tajikistan.

After achieving independence, the Tajik nation, instead of starting to build a modern national state after a thousand years of statelessness, was dragged into the vortex of political opposition and forced civil war.

The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, expressed that such a situation demanded that a session of the Supreme Council be convened in order to prevent bloodshed, restore the constitutional structure, ensure the rule of law in society and peace and tranquility in the country, because there is a danger of the disappearance of the state. Tajiks and the disintegration of the Tajik nation had become a terrible reality of the day.

The XVI Session of the Supreme Council was convened on November 16, 1992 in the ancient city of Khujand.

The session continued its work with an agenda consisting of 23 issues.

The election of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan and the new Board of the Supreme Council, the new Government, the approval of state symbols, the return of refugees and the stabilization of the social and political situation in the country were among the issues proposed that were very important in the cause of ending the civil war, restoring constitutional authority, returning refugees and achieving peace and tranquility.

After being elected to the position of the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon firmly stated that he supports the establishment of a democratic, law-based, secular and social state. Restoring peace and tranquility in every household, returning all refugees to the homeland and ending the imposed civil war was the primary task of the newly elected Head of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The representatives of the session unanimously supported these initiatives of the Head of State, taking into account the sensitive situation of the country and the aspirations of the people, as well as in order to protect the integrity of the Motherland and the national capital, they were unprecedentedly active and united in the process of the session.

Stabilizing the social and political situation and achieving peace was one of the main issues of the session.

For this purpose, the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the Declaration of the Day of Peace and National Accord of the People of Tajikistan on November 26, 1992" was adopted and the process of restoring peace in the country began.

In other words, the first step on the way to restoring peace was taken at this session, and as our compatriots well remember, after more than forty months of difficult negotiations, it was concluded on June 27, 1997 with the signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan".

One of the most important achievements secured by the newly elected Government was the return of more than one million forced refugees from the Islamic State of Afghanistan and other countries to their homeland in a short period of time.

The adoption of the National Flag as a symbol of the independent state of Tajikistan, a sign of sovereignty, unity and pride of the country's people was another important step of the historical session.

Head of State Emomali Rahmon emphasized that the XVI Session of the Supreme Council was held in a few days, which were truly fateful days for our people. Despite many problems and obstacles and fierce debates, decisions were made that met the demands and wishes of the people and expressed the strong will of the patriotic sons of the Tajik people.

It was emphasized that people's representatives on those days, we fulfilled our historical responsibility, filial duty, duty of youth and mission of faith towards the fate of our newly independent country, the people of Tajikistan and the present and future generations of our people.

The President of the country Emomali Rahmon stated that thirty years after the adoption of these documents, we can say with satisfaction and pride that this was the only reasonable and correct way that we - the representatives of the people - took in order to protect the independence, freedom, territorial integrity and capital of the nation, we chose unity and future progress and development of our homeland.

Head of State Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction that thanks to the historic XVI Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, we stopped the imposed civil war, freed the state from destruction and the nation from disintegration, restored peace and tranquility and national unity, laid the foundations of modern statehood - established a democratic, law-based, secular and social state and ensured stable economic development.

Over the past 30 years, the noble people of Tajikistan, people's deputies, members of the Government of the country, leaders and employees of state structures and bodies, civil servants in general and, of course, employees of law enforcement agencies and military structures served faithfully for the protection of independence and freedom, strengthening the foundations of national statehood, development of the state and prosperity of the Motherland.

The President of the country Emomali Rahmon considered the proud people of Tajikistan as champions of peace, creativity, prosperity and progress of the Motherland and emphasized that if the people of Tajikistan, young and old, did not support our policy for thirty years, we would not have achieved peace, tranquility, progress and development, i.e. we would not reach up to these days.

During the speech, Head of State Emomali Rahmon also spoke about the first years of statehood and governance, the transformation of Tajikistan into a unified country, the adoption of state programs and strategies, the introduction of sectorial reforms, the establishment of diplomatic relations with the countries of the world, beneficial relations with world-renowned organizations and institutions, the choice of the open-door policy in the foreign policy of the Government, constructive efforts and initiatives and measures to improve the standard of living of the people.

In conclusion, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, wished that peace, tranquility, unity and integrity last forever in our beloved Tajikistan, that every patriotic and conscientious son of our free and sovereign nation strengthens the pillars of our independent state and statehood through faithful labor and service as well as takes more efforts for the future prosperity of our ancient land.

After the completion of the solemn event and the colorful cultural program, a spectacular fireworks show was organized in honor of the 30th anniversary of the XVI Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan.
