On February 25, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received at the Palace of the Nation the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, who is in Tajikistan to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Forum "Tajikistan - Russia: the potential for interregional cooperation".

The meeting discussed the current situation and prospects for friendly relations between Tajikistan and Russia in priority areas, as well as inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

The head of state, Emomali Rahmon, expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between the two countries and inter-parliamentary relations between Tajikistan and Russia, and also highly appreciated the personal contribution of Valentina Matvienko to strengthening the complex of strategic partnership relations between the two countries.

During the discussion of the situation of cooperation between the two countries, the parties exchanged views on the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Tajik-Russian Inter-Parliamentary Forum on the Development of Strategic Partnership.

The meeting discussed issues of strengthening multifaceted relations between the regions of Tajikistan and Russia, developing and expanding interstate trade and economic cooperation, attracting Russian investment in the economy of Tajikistan, especially at the regional level.

Both sides expressed their views on the development of relations in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, labor migration, in the field of education, the development of the study of the Russian language, the provision of Russian schools with teachers, the creation of Russian schools in Tajikistan and the allocation of quotas in Russian universities for citizens of our country.

During the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged views on the rapidly changing political situation in the world, the escalation of conflicts in some regions, the political situation in Afghanistan and the fight against the threats and challenges of the modern world.
