Meeting with newly appointed European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Patricia Flor

Today the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received a newly appointed European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Patricia Flor and her former counterpart Pierre Morel.

The Head of State Emomali Rahmon congratulated Ms. Flor on the beginning of fulfillment of this responsible position and wished her success, as well as expressed gratitude to the former EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel for his fruitful activity.

It was expressed satisfaction over the consistent enhancement of wide-ranging relations between Tajikistan and the European Union.

The results of a series of trips of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to a number of countries of the European Union, visits to the Parliament and Council of Europe, as well as other regular meetings and negotiations have been highly evaluated.

The Head of State Emomali Rahmon positively evaluated the process of implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and EU Strategy for Central Asia for 2007-2014, as well as stated that “Tajikistan is interested in the development and adoption of a new EU Strategy in the region”.

In this context, the promotion of cooperation in spheres of social protection of population, healthcare, education and economic development, including its private sector, business and investments, different sectors of industry, hydropower, transport and agriculture, also in ensuring rule of law and human rights and freedoms has been considered expedient.

It was expressed confidence that the international integration of Tajikistan favors the elimination of artificial barriers in the way of development of regional cooperation in Central Asia.
The review of current situation in neighboring Afghanistan and its prospects has been one of the main subjects of the conversation.

“Concerning Afghanistan the main purpose of foreign policy of Tajikistan is ensuring peace, stability, security and revival of tranquil life in this country and we are ready to continue constructive cooperation with our international partners in order to attain these goals”, - stressed Emomali Rahmon.

In this regard, the realization of joint projects of regional importance in various areas, including energy, transport and communications has been considered necessary.

A constructive talk also took place on other issues of mutual interest.
