Today, President Emomali Rahmon received the Commander of the United States Central Command James Mattis.
The issues pertaining to multi-aspect cooperation between Tajikistan and U.S. have been reviewed at the meeting.
With appreciation over the fruitful interaction between the military and security structures of both countries in international fight against terrorism and extremism, the sides discussed the ways of strengthening and expanding further cooperation.
“Tajikistan is always for more expansion of partnership with U.S. in various spheres of security and strengthening peace and stability in the region”, - stated the Head of country Emomali Rahmon during the talk.
James Mattis highly evaluated Tajikistan’s role in rendering help to International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan and in economic reconstruction of this country and in this regard expressed his deep appreciation.
It was stressed that with consideration of buffer role of Tajikistan in preventing spread of the threats of terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking, the U.S. will further take efforts aimed at assistance to border forces and other relevant military and security agencies of our country, first of all for strengthening their material and technical resources. The parties highlighted an importance of enhancement of such cooperation, particularly since 2014, namely after withdrawal of Security Assistance Forces from Afghanistan.
A constructive talk has also been held on socio-political situation in Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, the ways of development of cooperation in Central and South Asia, and on other subjects of interest.
