Meeting with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak

The Founder of Peace and Natinal Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak. The meeting took place at the Palace of the Nation in Dushanbe.

The parties discussed the current issues concerning bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Slovakia with the focus on economic cooperation, trade, investment, transportation, industry, agriculture, humanitarian, science, education, health care, sports and tourism. The two sides reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen the Tajik- Slovak intergovernmental cooperation in these fields.

President Emomali Rahmon stated that Tajikistan is interested in developing and expanding the partnership with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and stressed that today the organization should take urgent measures to ensure security and stability.

The high-level conference “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime” that took place in Dushanbe, was an important international event in the fight against this plague of the century.

It was noted that within the framework of Tajikistan’s cooperation with the OSCE, significant progress has been made in the key areas of the political, economic and ecological sectors and that this process will be continued in the future.

President Rahmon noted that all the countries must take urgent measures to combat terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime and that the policy of "double standards" toward extremist and terrorist groups must cease.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
