Meeting with the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger

On the sidelines of the High-level International Conference on “Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism” the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.

The talks focused on current bilateral issues.

The head of state Emomali Rahmon underlined Tajikistan's readiness to strengthen joint cooperation with OSCE to ensure peace and stability, security and tranquility.

While discussing the Tajikistan – OSCE cooperation on the international scene, the two sides discussed matters pertaining to ensuring security, protecting borders as well as joint struggle against terrorism, extremism, violent radicalism, transnational organized crime and other undesirable phenomena in society.

It was stressed that Tajikistan would like to see more cooperation within OSCE's guiding principles in countering terrorism and extremism. In this context, Tajikistani position in these matters remains transparent and is free from "double standards".

It was believed that the OSCE will actively promote the protection of Tajikistan's state borders, the implementation of the National Border Management Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan, strengthening cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres, environmental protection, ensuring sustainable socio-economic development, including poverty reduction within the framework of win-win cooperation between Tajikistan and OSCE.

The sides exchanged opinions on stable political atmosphere in Tajikistan, freedom, the active work of public organizations of national ethnic minorities and trade unions.
