Meeting with the President of the Asian Development Bank Takehiko Nakao

The Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon held talks in the Palace of the Nation with Takehiko Nakao, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

In the course of the talks, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, called the Asian Development Bank a reliable partner of Tajikistan and stressed that since 1998, ADB has provided about 1.6 billion U.S. dollars to support development of Tajikistan’s economy.

The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, appreciated ADB’s financial assistance for the implementation of projects in education, energy, and transportation sectors as well as improvement of Tajikistan’s customs service, water supply and prevention and mitigation of natural disasters.

The two sides exchanged views on the continuation of bilateral cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank on the implementation of the ADB's Country Partnership Strategy 2016–2020 for Tajikistan, the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program and National Development Strategy of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030.

Both sides expressed confidence that cooperation between Tajikistan and ADB will be enhanced in providing food security as well as energy, transportation and job creation.

It was noted that the implementation of the ADB's Country Partnership Strategy and developing private sector of Tajikistan’s economy would be brought to a new level and regional cooperation in energy and transportation will be boosted.

Further, the sides noted the importance of the implementation of projects in the areas of water supply and transportation, healthcare, education, as well as in the reconstruction and restoration of existing hydroelectric power stations, urban development, adaptation to climate change.

The parties also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
