Meeting with Administrator of United Nations Development Programme Achim Steiner

On the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly session the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon had a meeting with Administrator of United Nations Development Programme Achim Steiner.

Bilateral cooperation and its prospects was the subject of discussion.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations Development Program, the Head of our country Emomali Rahmon highly appraised UNDP’s contribution to solution of problems facing Tajikistan.

In his turn, Mr. Achim Steiner highly appraised the Leader of the Tajik Nation’s global position on implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The two sides exchanged views on a number of issues being of mutual interest, including an active participation in implementation of small and large-scale socio-economic projects, support for implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Tajikistan National Development Strategy for the period up to 2030, Climate Change Mitigation, and Poverty Reduction, solution of global water, mitigation of natural disaster effects, and, rehabilitation of vital infrastructure and expansion of collaboration in the field of education.

The two sides had a detailed discussion of pressing international issues, including the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, corruption and organized transnational crimes.

The two sides expressed confidence that Tajikistan and UNDP will continue to promote good relations and strongly support further development of their cooperation.
