Participation in an informal meeting of heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) member states

The Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon attended an informal meeting of heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) member states taking place in Bishkek today.

The meeting was attended by President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, and President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev.

The participants discussed issues to strengthen CSTO member countries’ efforts to combat international terrorism and extremism, illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, transnational organized crime, ensuring security, and a number of other current issues related to regional and world matters.

The Heads of states, expressing concern over the last recent tragic events in the CSTO responsibility zone, resolutely condemned terrorism.

They also touched upon military and military-technical cooperation, security and political situation in Afghanistan, the protection and strengthening of the CSTO member countries’ southern borders with Afghanistan.

The meeting participants unanimously supported the nomination of Yuri Khatchaturov as CSTO Secretary General and expressed gratitude to the former Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha for his worthy contribution to strengthening interaction between the CSTO member countries.
