Meeting with the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan

A meeting of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon with the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was held today evening in Yerevan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of the Tajik-Armenian bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The parties confirmed their interest and readiness to further expand cooperation.

They reportedly expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of cooperation between the two countries within international and regional organizations, such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Armenia for supporting Tajikistan's membership in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and assistance in strengthening Tajikistan's southern border security within the CSTO framework.

The two sides paid a special attention to further expansion of trade and economic cooperation, and in this regard stressed the need to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Armenia on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

It was stressed that the legal foundation of friendly relationships between Tajikistan and Armenia includes more than 30 documents of cooperation in economy, trade, construction, environmental protection, science, education, health and culture.

About 10 documents are still under consideration of the parties, involving cooperation between the parties in the areas of citizens' travel, education, health, youth policy and science.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of international and regional problems being of mutual interest, including the current situation in Afghanistan, as well as the protection of state border, fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
