Meeting with Acting Chairman of OSCE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Today, in the Palace of Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the OSCE Acting Chairman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The issues related to the state of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany, as well as partnership between the two countries in the framework of the European Union, the OSCE and other international and regional organizations have been discussed.

President of Tajikistan stated at the beginning of the meeting that "Tajikistan fully supports the priorities defined during the chairmanship of the Federal Republic of Germany in the OSCE, and pays particular attention to the resumption of dialogue and restoration of confidence and security in the OSCE area, strengthening its capacity, active use of the Organization's instruments to address crises and settle conflicts".

The sides thoroughly exchanged opinions on the current situation in the region and the world, including the security and stability in Central Asia, Afghanistan, border situation, terrorism, religious extremism and organized crime, and evaluated the expansion of interactions in this direction meeting the interests of the countries of the region and the world.

During the review of the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Federal Republic of Germany in the fields of economy, trade and humanitarian cooperation it was stressed that today partnership between the two countries is at the level of cooperation to ensure sustainable development, and there exists good legal treaty basis of relations between the two countries.

At the meeting it was expressed gratitude to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for assistance to reach the Green Climate Fund under the Preparedness for Climate Change Programme and contribution to the implementation of small and large investment projects in the areas of transport and services in Tajikistan.

Both sides at the same time expressed their willingness and interest in the development and expansion of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Germany in the fields of science, education, culture and health.

A constructive discussion also took place on other issues related to water, energy, transport, transit and environment.
