Participation in the CSTO Collective Security Council meeting

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today took part in a meeting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in a narrow format, and delivered speech at an enlarged meeting which took place in Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation.

The meeting was attended by heads of the CSTO member states, Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev.

The agenda included issues related to the current situation in the world and the region, strengthening regional security and stability, the collective fight against international terrorism and extremism.

During his speech, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said that "the current situation in the world requires us to take effective collective measures to counter international terrorism and extremism."

Emomali Rahmon expressed concern that "for the CSTO member states the most dangerous factor is the fact that in the armed confrontation in the region take part  some of the citizens of our countries" and added that "today's meeting allows us to mobilize our respective structures on interaction and information exchange" .

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon also delivered speech about identifying recruiters preventing youth involvement in extremist groups, the situation on the borders of the CSTO, strengthening military structures to deal with new threats.

Appreciation was expressed for military exercises in the territory of the CSTO member states and proposed in the future within the organization to take measures to maintain the combat readiness of the armed forces.

Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan, taking into account its location, is at the forefront of the fight and takes all measures to counter these threats and challenges.

At the end of the extended meeting were signed Statement of Heads of the CSTO member states on combating international terrorism, as well as a number of other important documents.
