Meeting with EU Parliamentary Delegation

President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today received the delegation of the European Parliament for relations with Central Asia led by Iveta Grigule.

Head of state Emomali Rahmon, calling the visit of the European Union Parliamentary delegation on the eve of adoption of Tajikistan’s Constitution anniversary’s Day as a good admonition and also expressed his confidence that their visit will give a new momentum to the further development of constructive bilateral relations.

"Tajikistan since the early days of gaining independence in favor of increased cooperation with the European Union and deepening ties with Europe is considered to be a priority of our foreign policy", - said Emomali Rahmon.

Head of the delegation of the European Union Parliament Iveta Grigule, in her turn, said: "We believe that Tajikistan for EU as a good, reliable and constructive partner in Central Asia."

President of the country Emomali Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with the level and content of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union, including the EU Parliament, at the same time said: "Today, in the course of the relationship come to the fore issues related to the development of economic cooperation and security problems."

In this regard, special attention was paid to the development of cooperation in essential sectors of the Tajik economy, such as energy, industry, mining and agriculture.

In particular, it was stressed that "Promotion of energy projects in Tajikistan at the same time contributes to solving social and security issues in our country and the entire region, covering Afghanistan." 

Also a constructive discussion was held on the progress of the democratization of Tajik society, the need to continue cooperation towards strengthening the protection of the state border with Afghanistan, as well as the current situation in the Middle East and other topical issues.
